Bare As In NZ
The hills and mountains are bare. Bare as.
The effects of La Nina has not been kind to those waiting for the ski season to start in New Zealand. The months of May and June have produced record high temps. So, no snow.
This week, Wanaka's Treble Cone has joined the other NZ ski fields in delaying their opening dates due to a warm temperatures and a lack of snow. Treble Cone now joins Turoa, Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, Mt Hutt and Snow Park in pushing back their opening dates. Porter Heights, Ohau and Cardrona are scheduled to open later this month but conditions are still not looking favorable. While many of these ski fields have good snowmaking capabilities, with Coronet Peak having over 200 snowmaking guns, temperatures have remained too warm to start their guns.
Many ski field employees are starting to run into financial difficulties as they were expecting work but are having to wait for the fields to open.
As for the rest of us desperately wanting to head up and get our shred legs back? We're having snowboard parties where we get into our snowboard gears, put on a shred dvd and talk about those powder days we're all desperately holding out for.
So please, do a snowdance for us. That would be greatly appreciated!
