Hey there,

I need a little advice :) A friend of mine who recently got into snowboarding (just starting to link turns) is looking to buy her own board now at a reasonable price. I feel she prefers a new board rather than second hand and is tending towards the 5150 brand. I've only heared of it, no friends of mine ride these boards. Have anyone ridden a 5150? If so,what do you think of them? She liked the 5150 Prism, which looks specs wise like a beginner-intermediate directional deck... I'm a bit skeptic also because of its extruded base and the cap-construction

I'm puzzled...what would you advise me?

5150 is owned by K2 so I think they can't be completely horrible. I've never ridden one so I don't know much about it, but 5150 is a brand that is mean to be sold in big box stores like a Sports Authority (not sure what the Euro equivalent is). I think if it meets her budget she'd probably be fine on that as a beginner. I would just warn her that if she really gets into riding she'll probably want to invest in a better board in a couple of years.

Thanks, Lorene, that's pretty much what I told her. I saw the 5150 boards in a skate shop when we went to get her a jacket for riding. They don't look bad at all and you reasured me, so I guess it will do the work perfectly untill she progresses. I have a thing for K2s ever since I got the Fling. We'll look around anyway, but the budget stays narrow:)
