Sugar Bowl wants you come ride on the 4th of July for the first time since 1998. They're opening the mountain back up for one day just for 2010/11 and 2011/12 passholders. Sunday River claimed the honors of being the first resort in the US to open on Saturday. With 19 hours of snowmaking, the Maine resort was able to open the T2 trail from the top to midmountain. This is the fourth year in a row that Sunday River is the first resort to open in the East and their first time as the first in the US.

“It goes to show the magnitude of our snowmaking system and level of commitment towards making this happen,” Brent Larson, VP of Mountain Operations for Sunday River, says. “We started snowmaking last night, worked nonstop and we’re skiing today, which is pretty incredible.”

Sunday River will be making snow as weather permits.

The first snowstorm has hit the Northeast. Forecasters had predicted that over seven inches of snow could fall in elevations above 2000 feet by Saturday afternoon. We've heard that the snow is knee deep at the top of Stratton Mountain.
